5 Ways To Make Long Distance Moving Easy

Long distance moving is exciting but challenging. Residential movers or apartment movers who specialize in long distance moving can make it a lot easier.

But there also things that you can do to make sure that your long distance move goes smoothly. Here are 5  long distance moving tips that you can use to make it easier on yourself and your family:

Organize Your Move Carefully

Go through your possessions and organize them into piles. Put all the items that you want to take with you in your own vehicle or on the plane in a separate room. Then organize the rest of your stuff into separate categories like furniture, winter clothes and so on. That will also make it easier for the movers to load your items so that they will stay safe and not get broken.

Use Packing and Unpacking Services

If the moving company that you choose offers packing and unpacking services take advantage of them. Professional movers know how to pack your items so that they won’t get damaged. They are fast and efficient. Let the professionals do it and save yourself a lot of time and stress.

Pack an Arrival Box

Pack a box for you and your family full of items that you will need when you arrive at your new home. Your household items might not arrive at the same time you do. So plan on taking an arrival box with you. Buy new sheets, towels, pillows and an air mattress for each person. Also pack clothes for a day or two. Include a toiletries bag or a small box with soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and small items that you will all need. If you have pets pack a box for them with food dishes, food, beds and any medications they need. That way you will have everything you need for a day or two when you get to your new home.

Create an Inventory Sheet

It will help you and help your movers if you have an inventory sheet of all your belongings. After your movers pack the boxes number each box and add the number to your inventory sheet. When you get to your new home and the movers unpack the boxes you will be able to tell quickly and easily when all of your items are unloaded.

Keep a Moving Binder

Long distance moving will be a lot less stressful if you keep a moving binder. Get a regular plastic binder and some protective clear sleeves. In the binder put all your important documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, pet records, and other personal documents. Also put in there copies of all the documentation you get from the moving company. Mortgage documents or apartment leases and copies of travel itineraries, hotel reservations and other travel related documents should also go in there. Keep that with you at all times and you’ll have everything you need to make long distance moving stress free.
