Moving & Packing Tips For A Smooth Move

Whether you are moving long distance or moving locally there are some packing tips that you can use while you are getting your belongings ready to make the move. Use these tips to make sure that you and the movers will be able to load and unload your items safely:

Separate the Items You Need to Move

Moving day can be chaotic. In order to make the loading process go more quickly separate out any items that you are not taking with you or items that you want to take with you. Put those items in a separate room or even in a corner of a room all together. Tell the movers that those items are not supposed to be loaded on the truck.

Color Code Packing Boxes

When you are putting labels on your packing boxes use color coded labels so you and the movers will know what boxes belong to different rooms. That way the movers can put your moving boxes in the correct rooms when they unload them. It’s easy to do. Just buy a different color label for each room. Then mark down on your inventory list what color you have assigned to what room.

So all items from the bedroom might have a red label. Items from a child’s bedroom might have a blue or pink label. The living room items might have a green label. Using a color coding system will help you and the movers stay organized.

Put the label on the side of the box not on the top!

Get Your Appliances Ready To Move

Clean out all appliances and make sure they are empty before moving day. If you are moving lawn care equipment or tools and other equipment make sure that they are in the off position and that the cords are neatly coiled. Drain gasoline or any fuel from lawn care equipment or automotive equipment. Disconnect your washer and dryer safely.

Please note that movers cannot safely move anything in an aerosol can. Any items in pressurized cans must be safely disposed of before you move.

Clean Out the Fridge

The movers will not be able to move anything perishable so go through your fridge and pantry and get rid of anything perishable. Make sure that everything from the kitchen that is being moved is sealed in an airtight container with a tight lid. Use tape over the lids to make sure they stay in place or pack items in jars like spices in sealed plastic freezer bags.

Moving Guns

Any guns that the movers are taking must be unloaded and packed in a hard show case. All guns must also have a Federal safety seal in order to be moved by the movers. Be sure to tell Mindful Moving team on the day of the move if you have guns that need to be relocated.

Follow these packing tips and moving day should be less stressful for you and your family.
